Matt Webb takes maiden win in Hungary!
| 09-06-2011
The season Seven Development Series champion has been waiting a long time to make his way to the top step of the F1A series podium
and in just his second season of racing in the top tier, Matt Webb has broken through for victory at the Hungaroring. It may have
been a controversial race in some respects, however Webb steered clear of the many incidents to lead his team to a one-two finish
with JesterF1 finishing second, substituting for Greg Olson this round.
MINIKOB3 took pole position and the lead in the early stages of the race while JesterF1 struggled with his launch control system and fell
back to third. MINIKOB3 made a small break before strategy played a part in JesterF1 retaking second from Webb and begin putting pressure
on MINIKOB3; JesterF1 on a two stop vs. Webb on a one stop. MINIKOB3 gave up the lead after a slight error saw him catch the grass and be
sent off the road by a touch from Jester's Red Bull, an unfortunate incident though it set up a rematch between him and Dizzo once again.
Loose and Dizzo quickly made ground and soon the three of them were fighting for the lead with Webb following close behind ready to pounce
should any incident occur - he was right to do so. There were hard fought battles at various places on the track but it all came to conclusion
after Loose made an ambitious and somewhat suspect move to overtake Dizzo into turn one. Dizzo was sent flying suffering sevre damage to the
rear of his car with Loose retiring immediately. Dizzo too retired after he struggled to get his Mclaren back to the pits and subsequently
stalled on track.
With Dizzo and Loose out of the race, JesterF1 led though not for long as Webb was able to take the lead and retain it for the remainder of the
race on his one stop strategy. MINIKOB3 kept up the fight for a while until he suffered yet more connection issues and JesterF1 didn't
have the pace to make the most of his two stop strategy. Webb crusied home to a comfortable victory lapping everyone in the field, except
JesterF1 who he let through on the final corner to complete what would be the fastest lap of the race.
